In a bid to contribute to environmental conservation efforts and commemorate World Wetlands Day 2024, Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) partnered with the Naivasha sub-county for a clean-up exercise in the serene locale of Kihoto, Naivasha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event, held on February 13, 2024, marked the Institute\u2019s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities aimed at fostering a sustainable environment for present and future generations. World Wetlands Day, celebrated annually on February 2nd, provides a poignant reminder of the importance of wetlands in biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Led by dedicated staff and trainees from WRTI, NEMA, Red Cross Team Climate Change and local community members, the clean-up initiative targeted the preservation of the fragile wetland ecosystem in Kihoto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves and embarked on a mission to rid the area of litter and debris, ensuring the wetlands remain a pristine habitat for diverse flora and fauna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The clean-up exercise not only symbolized the Institute\u2019s dedication to environmental sustainability but also served as a platform for raising awareness about the importance of wetlands in mitigating climate change impacts, regulating water flow, and supporting biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the day drew to a close, the collective efforts bore fruit as bags filled with waste were collected, and the wetlands of Kihoto gleamed with newfound vitality. The event served as a reminder that through collaboration and concerted action, we can protect and preserve our precious natural resources for generations to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
