{"id":7327,"date":"2024-03-11T06:40:23","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T06:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wrti.go.ke\/?p=7327"},"modified":"2024-03-11T06:40:24","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T06:40:24","slug":"wrti-director-leads-kenyan-delegation-at-cop-14-in-samarkanduzbekistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wrti.go.ke\/?p=7327","title":{"rendered":"WRTI Director Leads Kenyan Delegation at COP 14 in Samarkand,Uzbekistan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) was part of Kenya delegation at<br>the concluded 14th Conference of Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of<br>Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP-14) in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan.<br>Director\/ CEO Dr Patrick Omondi was the head of the Kenyan delegation at the COP<br>14, which was held from February 12-17 th , 2024.<br>With a wealth of experience in wildlife conservation and a steadfast commitment to<br>biodiversity preservation, Dr. Omondi&#8217;s leadership underscores Kenya&#8217;s dedication to<br>global efforts in safeguarding migratory species and their habitats.<br>The COP 14 serves as a crucial platform for international collaboration, where<br>scientists, conservationists, donors converge to discuss challenges facing migratory<br>species worldwide including climate change, pollution, loss of connectivity, illegal<br>wildlife trade, unplanned infrastructure development.<br>As Dr. Omondi lead the Kenyan delegation with unwavering dedication, the country<br>reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the cause of wildlife conservation and<br>contributing to a sustainable future for migratory species and their habitats.<br>The Kenyan delegation brought forth a comprehensive agenda aimed at advocating<br>for stronger protections for migratory species, fostering innovative conservation<br>strategies, and forging partnerships to address emerging challenges.<br>&#8220;We are honored to represent Kenya at this esteemed gathering of global<br>conservation leaders,&#8221; remarked Dr. Omondi. &#8220;Migratory species play a vital role in<br>maintaining ecosystem balance and are integral to our cultural heritage.
