On June 19, 2025, the senior management, led by the Institute\u2019s Director welcomed its newest cohort of 220 students in a vibrant orientation event marked by inspiration, mentorship, and words of encouragement from leadership and alumni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director, Dr. Patrick Omondi, warmly welcomed the students on behalf of the Board. \u201cYou are in the best institution. Our lecturers are top notch, and the Institute\u2019s natural setting offers you unmatched field experience inside the Naivasha Wildlife Sanctuary \u2014 your living laboratory,\u201d he informed the trainees.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted the Institute\u2019s reputation as a registered State Corporation under NACOSTI and TVET, assuring students that their certificate is recognised both locally and globally. \u201cWe\u2019ve had past students who have made us proud and landed excellent opportunities. You too can achieve the same with focus and discipline.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Dr. Omondi introduced a variety of student support systems, including the Students\u2019 Council, a Counselling Office, and a Work Study Programme that supports financially struggling students. He also encouraged the students to apply for HELB through the Tourism Revolving Fund to ensure they don’t face any financial challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKeep good company,\u201d he advised. \u201cEngage in extracurriculars like nature trails and hiking \u2014 they are not just fun, but build your character.\u201d He further emphasized the Institute\u2019s alignment with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which aims to equip learners with competency-based skills for the job market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Director- Training Dr. Roselyn Onyuro, urged the students to maintain discipline and stay focused throughout their training journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a heartfelt address, Kennedy Lemaiyan, an alumnus who studied for a Diploma in Environmental Management in 2015, inspired the audience with his journey from WRTI to working with Save the Elephants, earning scholarships for his Master\u2019s and PhD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis Institute gave me a solid foundation,\u201d he said. \u201cStay focused, be disciplined, and choose your friends wisely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a touching gesture, he announced that he is currently sponsoring two students at the Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Institute continues to mold the next generation of conservationists and environmental stewards, the new students embark on their academic journey equipped with hope, guidance, and a firm foundation for future success.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
