Institute Receives Desktop Computers to Boost Aquaculture Training under Samaki Poa Initiative

In a bid to boost Aquaculture training, the Institute, on June 4th, 2025 received a donation of 12 desktop computers from Tunga Nutrition (K) Limited as part of the ongoing Samaki Poa initiative—an East African programme dedicated to transforming the aquaculture sector.

Samaki Poa aims to enhance food security, create sustainable employment, and promote inclusive economic growth by equipping youth and women across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania with digital and vocational skills in aquaculture.

The donated computers will be installed with HowToDoAquaculture.com, a free, interactive e-learning platform developed by Blue Planet Academy, which is a boost to the Institute’s students. The platform hosts over 150 animated videos focusing on tilapia and catfish farming, offering students and trainees practical, hands-on knowledge in modern aquaculture practices.

While receiving the donation, the Institute’s Director, Dr. Patrick Omondi, expressed his gratitude, stating:

“This is more than a donation; it is an investment in digital transformation and capacity building for our students, aligned with our vision of training future-ready aquaculture professionals.”

The initiative directly supports the National Wildlife Training Agenda (2024–2033) and the Institute’s efforts under the Blue Economy Training and Advisory (BETA) Programme to provide relevant, high-quality training to meet the evolving needs of the aquaculture industry.

Also present during the handover were Deputy Director of Training, Dr. Roselyn Onyuro; Mike Ouya from Lattice Africa; and representatives from Tunga Nutrition (K) Limited—Audrey Nyambura, Irene Achieng, and Mabble Basweti.

The Institute extends its sincere appreciation to Samaki Poa and its implementing partners for their continued commitment to building capacity and promoting sustainable aquaculture across the region.
